Lawyers for Honeywell International Inc. have mounted an eleventh-hour bid to undo a default order after a judge at the U.S. Labor Department found the company had failed to respond to a whistleblower’s claim that she was fired for raising concerns about internal practices.

The case against Honeywell, brought by a former employee who was an installation administrative specialist in Ohio, moved quickly from liability to damages at the Labor Department proceeding.
