The U.S. Department of Justice’s lawsuit challenging Georgia’s latest election law signals how Main Justice could continue to battle laws tightening voting restrictions even if the Supreme Court further limits the Voting Rights Act, legal experts said.

The suit, filed Friday in the Northern District of Georgia, alleges Georgia’s Republican-backed law, enacted in March, intentionally discriminates against Black voters in violation of the Voting Rights Act.
