A federal appeals court rejected a challenge brought by Republican lawmakers attempting to throw out House Democrats’ proxy voting rule adopted during the pandemic.

GOP members of Congress appealed a district court decision last August that tossed their lawsuit, which challenged a rule passed in May 2020 allowing members to cast votes on other members’ behalf due to COVID-19. The resolution was meant to last 45 days, but has been extended numerous times, with the most recent extension expiring Aug. 17.
