A nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit looks destined for a smooth confirmation after a top Senate Republican backed the pick at a hearing Wednesday.

Toby Heytens, an experienced appellate advocate and the current solicitor general for Virginia, was selected by President Joe Biden for an upcoming vacancy on the Fourth Circuit, as Judge Barbara Keenan will take senior status at the end of August.
