Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom announced Monday that former White House National Security Council and State Department attorney Brian Egan will join the firm in its Washington, D.C., office, bolstering the firm’s presence at the increasingly important intersection of national security and foreign investment matters.

Egan had been in the public sector in various roles from 2005 through 2017, holding posts for the White House National Security Council, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and most recently as a legal adviser to the U.S. State Department. He spent the last four-plus years as a partner in Steptoe & Johnson’s D.C. office.
