A federal judge sentencing a defendant in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot slammed comparisons between the attack on the U.S. Capitol to protests following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis last year.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan of the District of Columbia said it was a “false equivalency” to suggest the violence and looting that occurred in some cities following Floyd’s murder was similar to a mob of pro-Trump rioters storming the Capitol building.
