A federal judge on Wednesday found two Washington, D.C., correctional officials in civil contempt and said he will make a reference to the U.S. attorney general for a potential civil rights investigation into the treatment of Jan. 6 defendants.

Senior U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth of the District of Columbia made the finding at the close of a show-cause hearing for D.C. Jail Warden Wanda Patten and D.C. Department of Corrections Director Quincy Booth, after he found the department did not transfer the medical notes for Jan. 6 defendant Christopher Worrell “forthwith,” in compliance with an order Lamberth issued last week. Lamberth said he will not issue a civil sanction over the finding.
