The U.S. Senate on Wednesday narrowly confirmed Rachael Rollins as U.S. attorney in Massachusetts following a bruising partisan fight over her policies as a local prosecutor in Boston.

Rollins, who will be the first Black woman to serve in the role, was confirmed on a strict party line vote, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the 50-50 tie. The Senate Judiciary Committee deadlocked on her nomination 11-11 in September, forcing Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to hold an initial full Senate vote last week to dislodge her from the committee.
