A large team of litigators in Washington, D.C.—including one of the firm's co-managing partners —is leaving Shipman & Goodwin to form a new firm due to apparent and potential conflicts of interest that could cause impediments to growth, the firm and the departing team announced jointly Tuesday.

Shipman co-managing partner Leander Dolphin said the divorce was "amicable," as did Jim Ruggeri, the leader of the team that is leaving.

Ruggeri is also a co-managing partner at Shipman and chair of the firm's insurance and reinsurance practice. As of Jan. 1, Ruggeri and his partners are setting up shop as Ruggeri Parks Weinberg.
