A federal judge on Wednesday denied a Capitol riot defendant’s attempt to dismiss a felony obstruction charge, a ruling that came after the defendant’s lawyer asked for an immediate ruling on the motion.

U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich of the District of Columbia ruled that the defendant, Guy Reffitt, will have to face the charge of obstruction of an official proceeding for attempting to derail Congress’ certification of the 2020 election, the second such ruling Friedrich has made this month on that charge in a Jan. 6 case.
