In the first big lateral move of the New Year, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr has become the home of yet another top flite government lawyer moving into private practice. Frank Gorman, who was the acting deputy director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, has joined the firm in Washington, D.C., as a partner.

Until last week, Gorman had been at the FTC for 24 years, starting out in 1998 as an attorney. In 2009 he was promoted to assistant director of enforcement, where he served for eight-and-a-half years before moving to the agency’s Bureau of Consumer Protection as chief of staff.
