An assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General has turned up at McGuireWoods as co-leader of the firm’s appeals and issues team, following his departure from the office in November.

Jonathan Ellis, who will be resident in Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, North Carolina, has argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court so far in his career. His last three cases at the court were Thompson v. Clark, Facebook v. Duguid, and United States v. Gary—a constitutional question, a consumer protection matter, and a criminal prosecution case.
