The U.S. Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday announced an effort to broadly revamp the agencies’ guidelines on reviewing corporate mergers, previewing changes that could lead to more strict antitrust enforcement.

At a joint news conference, FTC Chair Lina Khan and Jonathan Kanter, the head of DOJ’s antitrust division described the review as an attempt to ensure the agencies’ standards reflect how the growth of technology has transformed sectors across the economy.
