Partisan tensions were on display during Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, with Sen. Dick Durbin criticizing Sen. Tom Cotton for holding over nominations for several U.S. attorneys and U.S. marshals.

On Monday, Cotton sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland threatening to block Biden’s Department of Justice nominees over claims the department won’t cover the costs of legal representation for deputy U.S. marshals sued for allegedly using excessive force against people in Portland protesting the killing of George Floyd in 2020.
