A federal public defender and former Mayer Brown partner has joined the U.S. Justice Department as the pardon attorney, overseeing an office that reviews and evaluates federal clemency applications.

Elizabeth Oyer, who was most recently senior litigation counsel at the federal public defender’s office for the District of Maryland, arrived at Main Justice earlier this month. She’s the first permanent DOJ pardon attorney since January 2017.
