Two Florida women convinced a federal judge to issue a national injunction blocking President Joe Biden's mask mandate for plane travel, as issued over a year ago by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"The mandate exceeded the CDC's statutory authority, improperly invoked the good cause exception to notice and comment rulemaking, and failed to adequately explain its decisions," wrote U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimble Mizelle, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, in her lengthy opinion. "Because 'our system does not permit agencies to act unlawfully even in pursuit of desirable ends,' the court declares unlawful and vacates the mask mandate."
