Lawyers used to move from downtown firms to the suburbs, in search of a different lifestyle. But that trend seems to be reversing—and could emerge in other areas of the country as well.

For suburban-dwelling lawyers sick of the daily grind of a commute into downtown Washington, the law firms based in the satellite towns of the nation's capital—such as Bethesda and Rockville, Maryland, and Arlington and Tysons, Virginia—were prime destinations.
But with the rise of remote work and hybrid schedules, that trend seems to have reversed—or at least diminished, according to Beltway legal recruiters.
