The unprecedented leak of a draft opinion, a crush of politically charged cases with huge practical implications, and a pandemic that expanded the isolating bubble in which the justices work may contribute to a less-than-positive dynamic within the U.S. Supreme Court right now, according to some veteran advocates.

Particularly striking, some said, were recent comments by Justice Clarence Thomas at a Dallas conference sponsored by three conservative think tanks.
