Attorneys from Dickinson Wright are claiming the Jan. 6 committee’s subpoena for Republican National Committee data would include protected information owned by Senate Republican’s fundraising arm, a violation of the group’s First Amendment rights.

Dickinson Wright attorneys Charles R. Spies and Jessica Brouckaert wrote the amicus brief submitted on behalf of the National Republican Senatorial Committee Tuesday. Their filing with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit compares the bipartisan Jan. 6 committee’s attempt to access the GOP’s data to the Watergate scandal.
