Claiming that President Joe Biden exceeded his authority and failed to abide by federal administrative law, an Indiana man has asked a federal judge to block the president’s effort to cancel student debt for over 40 million borrowers.

“Purporting to step into the breach left by Congress, and making good on a campaign promise, the President in August announced that his administration would, by October, begin canceling between $10,000 and $20,000 of loan debts categorically,” the complaint, authored by Caleb Kruckenberg with the Pacific Legal Foundation and submitted Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana says. “This is, of course, Congress’s prerogative under our Constitution, as Congress is the branch of government that possesses the exclusive power to make law.”
