The lawyer involved in a tense exchange with a West Virginia state judge who pulled a gun out during a hearing said she was glad to hear the jurist stepped down from the bench. 

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing—here, the good people of West Virginia did something,” said Michelman & Robinson managing partner Lauren Varnado who called the resignation of Judge David Hummel following the early 2022-incident in West Virginia’s New Martinsville City Circuit Court a “huge relief.”
