The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Judge Dana Douglas to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, making her the first Black woman to serve on the New Orleans-based federal appeals court.

Douglas has sat as a U.S. magistrate judge in the Eastern District of Louisiana since 2019, and prior to joining the bench, she was a partner at Liskow & Lewis. She was confirmed by a vote of 65-31, and is Biden’s first appointment to the Fifth Circuit.
