The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s first meeting since the end of March recess was less explosive than one might imagine considering the public war being waged over the future of a request by ailing Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, for a temporary replacement on the powerful committee.

“There are several pending issues before the committee I won’t go into at this time, but I hope my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will try to find common ground on these issues,” said Committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, at the opening of the hearing.
