The Supreme Court each year faces a slew of emergency appeals from death row inmates hoping to block their executions—but the case of Oklahoma capital defendant Richard Glossip stands out.

That’s because Glossip’s execution is continuing as planned on May 18 even though Oklahoma’s chief law enforcement officer, Attorney General Gentner Drummond, is fighting to keep him alive.
