Business groups are urging the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to ensure its proposed amendments to the Negative Option Rule have "flexibility."

The FTC proposed new amendments to the rule in March. The proposal aims to combat "unfair or deceptive practices" like difficulty canceling products, services or recurring charges on items consumers no longer want after accepting an introductory offer. The agency claims the current rule does not provide consumers or businesses with a "consistent legal framework."
