The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule on reducing gas emissions from light- and medium-duty vehicles is neither reasonable nor achievable within the time frame the agency has set, automakers and oil trade groups told the agency during a comment period that ended Wednesday. 

The EPA in April proposed stringent standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from these vehicles starting with model year 2027. The agency stated that the proposed rule would “complement” the auto industry’s transformation to clean technology.
