The U.S. Supreme Court allowed Alabama to execute James Edward Barber on Friday morning over the dissent of the court's three liberal justices, who criticized their colleagues for prioritizing "expeditious executions" and said the state was using Barber as a "guinea pig" for its lethal injection protocol.
