The U.S. Department of Justice sued Agri Stats Inc. on Thursday, alleging the company’s weekly and monthly compilations and distribution of price, cost and output information from chicken, pork and turkey processors violates federal antitrust law by stifling competition within the industry while enabling processors to raise prices by controlling the food supply.

In its complaint, the DOJ’s antitrust division claims Agri Stats has encouraged the price controls by reserving the data for processors and keeping it from suppliers, grocery stores and consumers.
