The U.S. Supreme Court reconvenes Monday for its 2023-2024 term, which at the outset will have fewer of the hot-button social issues akin to those that dominated newspaper headlines during the prior two sessions, including abortion, affirmative action and LGBTQ discrimination.

Instead, the cases on the docket so far have a more legalistic quality.
