The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday proposed a rule to prohibit businesses from imposing hidden charges, the so-called junk fees for consumer goods or services, that the agency says cause American buyers to pay billions of dollars in unexpected costs. 

The FTC’s proposal drew same-day praise from President Joe Biden, who last year called on federal agencies, Congress and private companies to address junk fees and ensure consumers are well-informed of the total price.
