Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Richard Durbin on Thursday abruptly called off a planned vote on subpoenas for two well-heeled friends of conservative justices as part of the Illinois Democrat’s investigation of alleged ethical lapses by U.S. Supreme Court members.

Durbin’s action followed criticism of the planned subpoenas by Sen. Lindsey Graham, the committee’s ranking Republican who warned of a “complete shitshow.” Durbin later blamed “scheduling issues.”
