Covington & Burling has matched the latest associate salary adopted by elite law firms this week, becoming one of the first Washington, D.C.-founded law firms to make the move.

Covington, sources confirmed on Friday, will pay salaries starting at $225,000 for first-year associates up to $435,000 for the class of 2016 and on. The firm, which had average profits per partner last year of $2.3 million, will also match the market for year-end bonuses starting at $15,000 (pro-rated) for first-year associates, up to $115,000 for the class of 2016 and on.
