The U.S. Supreme Court skillfully steered clear of legal disputes involving the 2020 election, but is now being asked to get involved in another that could affect the landscape of the 2024 campaign. 

Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday asking the justices to quickly settle the issue of former President Donald Trump’s immunity to prosecution over his efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election.
