Nearly three years after the Jan. 6 insurrection, the U.S. Supreme Court said for the first time Wednesday that it will review an obstruction charge for a man who participated in the riot at the U.S. Capitol building that day in 2021.

The Supreme Court granted a petition for review from Joseph Fischer, a former Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, police officer who was charged by federal prosecutors with obstructing an official proceeding for his conduct on Jan. 6 in which a mob of pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol Building to stop Congress’ certification of the 2020 election results.
