Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was mourned Tuesday at a funeral service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., where President Joe Biden and Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. paid tribute to the nation’s first female Supreme Court justice.

Gracious and wise, civil and principled, Sandra Day O’Connor, a daughter of the American West, was a pioneer in her own right, breaking down the barriers in legal and political worlds and the nation’s consciousness,” Biden said.
