The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday proposed stronger restrictions on the use and disclosure of personal information about children provided online and greater limitations on companies' ability to monetize that information.

"Kids must be able to play and learn online without being endlessly tracked by companies looking to hoard and monetize their personal data," FTC Chair Lina Khan said in a statement regarding the agency's Children's Online Privacy Protection Act Rule.
