The Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Justice Department’s Antitrust Division together filed 50 merger enforcement actions in fiscal year 2022, representing the highest enforcement activity in more than 20 years, the FTC announced last week in releasing the agencies’ most recent Hart-Scott-Rodino Premerger Notification Program report.

The notification program, established under the 1976 Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, helps to alert the agencies when a merger or acquisition may harm competition. The report covers fiscal year 2022, which ended Sept. 30, 2022.
