The federal government on Tuesday defended the use of race in the admissions process of the nation’s premier military academy at West Point on Tuesday, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject the latest legal challenge by a prominent anti-affirmative action group.

U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar urged the high court to deny a request from Edward Blum’s Students for Fair Admissions for an emergency injunction that would prevent West Point admissions officials from considering race at all for candidates for the class of 2028.
