Michelle Battley is an experienced lawyer who has spent the last several years working in legal management and operations. She spent a number of years as a disputes lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from 2001, before roles in law firms in Asia-Pacific and as an in-house lawyer. She returned to Freshfields in 2017, creating innovative change by introducing more efficient workflows to their resource management and work allocation processes. Michelle continues to adopt best practices and push the firm’s matter resourcing to the next level by using best-in-class technology to support better lawyer utilization, provide career enhancing work, and create a more equitable environment.

Dave Cook | Global Director of Resource Management | BigHand

Dave joined BigHand in 2020, following the acquisition of Mason & Cook, in which Dave was the founder & CEO. Dave pioneered the adoption of resource management within the legal industry, introducing the first structure within a magic circle law firm back in 2012. Since then, Dave has driven the expansion of resource management globally, supporting the worlds leading law firms in adopting best practice resource management structures and cutting-edge technology. Dave leads the strategic direction of the resource management team at BigHand, including the development of new products and the global expansion of the firms’ award-winning services.

Monika Crawford | Head of Practice Management, US Dispute Resolution | Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

Monika Crawford is the Head of Practice Management for US Dispute Resolution at Freshfields, where she supports practice group leadership with strategic planning, talent development, knowledge management, and day-to-day operations. She draws on 13 years of litigation experience, including her early career years as an associate at an Am Law 10 firm. Before transitioning to practice management at Freshfields, she specialized in labor and employment law, advising a large government agency on a variety of workforce issues.
