X Corp. is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out a lower court order that the company secretly divulge to Special Counsel Jack Smith former President Donald Trump’s private messages on the social media site as part of the prosecutor’s investigation of Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The social media giant, which Elon Musk bought as Twitter in 2022 and rebranded as X, has filed a petition for a writ of certiorari asking the justices to intervene in its ongoing legal fight with the U.S. Department of Justice over last year’s warrant. Smith’s office had sought the former president’s private Twitter messages around the time of the 2020 election and ordered the company not to disclose the request to the former president.
