Cryptocurrency company Terraform Labs and its founder Do Kwon, which a Manhattan jury found liable on civil fraud charges in April, have brokered a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the defendants to pay a combined $4.5 billion in penalties.

Under the agreement, Terraform would pay $4.4 billion of the total—which contains a $420 million civil penalty—while Kwon, who was CEO during the time of the alleged fraud schemes, would be on the hook for a total of $204 million to be paid to the Terraform bankruptcy estate for distribution to investors who claimed to lose money in the schemes.
