A new class-action antitrust lawsuit against Amazon accuses the online retail giant of harming competition in the audiobook retail distribution market and depressing the earnings of self-published authors.
The action was surfaced by Law.com Radar.
“The effect of Amazon’s anticompetitive conduct is a collection of quintessential antitrust injuries: for authors, the effect is reduced output, total sales, and income. For rivals, the effect is foreclosure of access to the wide range of audiobooks needed to compete effectively. And for consumers, the effect is less choice, less innovation, and less output,” the complaint alleges.
