Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday slammed U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit nominee Karla Campbell over a campaign contribution she made years ago to a Democratic congressional candidate, as well as her past involvement in a workers’ rights organization.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah pressed Campbell on a $1,500 donation she made to Odessa Kelly, who lost a race to represent Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District in 2022. Lee also cited Kelly’s tweets criticizing several Republican members of the committee, including one stating that several GOP senators who opposed Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination were “aligned with the devil.”
