The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that American citizens do not have a “liberty interest” in their noncitizen spouse’s admission to the United States, shutting down a woman’s legal fight to reunite with her El Salvadoran husband whom she says was wrongly accused of having gang ties.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett, writing for the majority in Department of State v. Muñoz, rejected the notion that Americans have a constitutional right to legally challenge their noncitizen spouse’s visa denial.
