MultiPlan, a tech firm that provides data analytics and out-of-network cost-management services to health insurance companies, is facing a deluge of complaints over allegations it “profits handsomely” by “suppressing industry-wide out-of-network reimbursement rates.”

Susman Godfrey attorneys representing a California orthopedic practice filed an antitrust class action Tuesday against MultiPlan and the medical insurance companies Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare in Manhattan federal court. The complaint accuses MultiPlan and the insurance companies of “unlawful price-fixing” as members of an alleged cartel that limits competition.
