The U.S. Supreme Court next term will hear an appeal from a disabled retired firefighter whose discrimination lawsuit against the city of Sanford, Florida, was thrown out because she had left her job and taken disability.

The justices granted certiorari, or review, Monday in Stanley v. City of Sanford, Florida, dealing with a circuit split over whether former employees can sue for discriminatory benefits programs under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The court has yet to set oral arguments in the case. A decision is expected by July 2025.
