The six largest pharmacy benefit managers control 94% of all prescriptions in the United States, contributing to higher drug costs and driving out independent pharmacies, the Federal Trade Commission stated in a report released Tuesday.
The FTC released the report as part of its ongoing investigation launched in 2022 into these six PBMs: CVS Caremark Rx, Express Scripts Inc., OptumRx Inc., Humana Pharmacy Solutions, Prime Therapeutics LLC, MedImpact Healthcare Systems Inc.
