Just one day after the U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a false advertising lawsuit against an online educational institution headquartered in Georgia, the government indicated that the parties agreed to settle the case for $43.5 million in student debt and refunds.

The FTC’s motion on the settlement was submitted for approval Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, pertaining to a consumer protection suit against Career Step. Career Step was accused of misrepresenting its programs’ success to military members and families through misleading advertising, artificial intelligence technology and marketing on military bases.
