The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon shot down the Biden administration's request to reinstate aspects of a new student debt relief program that have been blocked by a lower federal appeals court.

In a short order, the court denied the administration's bid to lift an injunction against the plan imposed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. As a result, President Joe Biden's multibillion-dollar SAVE plan extending student loan relief to millions of American borrowers will remain on hold as litigation continues.
