The U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust chief warned Thursday of a growing crisis as the line separating expertise and advocacy has blurred due to corporate money funding expert testimony in antitrust cases.

“All over the world, money earmarked specifically to discourage antitrust and competition law enforcement is finding its way into the expert community upon which we all depend,” Assistant U.S. Attorney General Jonathan Kanter said in a speech at Fordham University School of Law’s annual international antitrust law and policy conference.
